Unearthly Records - Dirty Beats and Bass from South London

Page Three - Mid Nineties - Dead by Dawn
A squatted building, half way down Railton Road in Brixton, past the drug dealers on the left was the venue for Dead by Dawn. Organised by Christoph from Praxis, Dead by Dawn was an antidote to the safe and boring techno/trance filling the clubs of London at this time. With the emphasis on anything goes, the music ranged from detroit/electro to full on hard early techno, breaks, gabba and acid via experimental weirdness. A haven for those in search of the new and exciting and a meeting place for the underground. After running every month succesfully for nearly 2 years and nearly 20 parties it was decided to finish Dead by Dawn before it got too predictable and boring and became just another night. Dont stand still, keep moving. It was announced that the 23rd party would be the last one. Each party was a countdown to the end of an era. The final Dead by Dawn night was on the 6th of April 1996 with Praxis 23 "Dead by Dawn" Double LP being released that night as the final document. See discography section for details on this release.
